RETURN FROM ALL SAINTS WEEKEND BREAK: A DRONE’S EYE VIEW OF LIVE TRAFFIC AT FOUR LOCATIONS

Following a successful first experience in July, VINCI Autoroutes will again give a live feed of traffic conditions from the air using drones. On 1 November, therefore, when many people will be returning from their All Saints weekend break, drones will transmit live images simultaneously from four very busy points on the VINCI Autoroutes network. The images will be shown on www.vinci-autoroutes.com, enabling the general public and news media to follow traffic conditions at these four locations in real time.

From 10.00 to 17.30 on Sunday, 1 November, the drones will fly over four key areas:
• The A7/A9 motorway junction at Orange, north of Avignon
• The A10 motorway in the vicinity of the Saint Arnoult toll plaza, south of Paris, and the Virsac toll plaza, north of Bordeaux
• The A61 motorway at the Toulouse South toll plaza.

The images will be shown live at http://en.sites.vinci-autoroutes.com/en/article/drones-eye-traffic-info-replay-sunday-1-november-2015 on the VINCI Autoroutes website.

For this experiment, VINCI Autoroutes has decided to draw on the experience of Live Drone, a French company specialising in live aerial feeds. A first successful trial was conducted on 11 July, which showed live images of the Saint Arnoult en Yveline toll plaza on the A10. This was followed by aerial filming of the junction between the A7 and A9 at Orange on 31 July, when there is traditionally very heavy traffic on French roads as July vacationers head home and August vacationers start their holiday.

A drone’s eye view of traffic conditions at four locations simultaneously and shown live on the Internet for several hours is a first in France.
